John,
Few organizations understand community and democracy as well as labor unions. Working as an intern for my local AFL-CIO chapter in college and as the volunteer director for the United Democrats of Illinois coordinated campaign in 1996, I know that the hard work, organization, and strength of labor unions gets things done and keeps this nation moving. Today we celebrate and honor their work.
From fair and safe working conditions to overtime pay, the work of organized labor has helped make the American dream more accessible to so many more Americans and for this, we owe organized labor our gratitude and solidarity.
Wishing you a happy and safe Labor Day,
Liz
