John,
This Labor Day, I’m pushing for workers’ rights and safety in response to the deadly heat waves ravaging our country.
As climate disasters become increasingly common, workers frequently find themselves being placed in dangerous and unsafe positions -- without health and safety protections.
This summer, two farmworkers died from working in extreme heat.[1] And just last week a UPS driver in Texas collapsed and died while making deliveries in the heat. Their truck was not air conditioned.[2]
This is unacceptable. The safety of our workers, especially our most marginalized workers, should always be our top priority.
For people who work outside, it’s essential to have access to cooling centers and drinking water.
Will you join my call for Congress to establish life-saving cooling centers and drinking water facilities for at-risk populations and workers -- including farmworkers, construction workers, and delivery and postal workers?
SIGN ON
Across the country, there have been accounts of forced work during climate disasters.
In 2021, Amazon forced workers to work through tornadoes, killing some of my constituents.
Following that tragedy, I helped launch an investigation into Amazon’s labor practices and introduced bills like the Worker Safety in Climate Disaster Act, which would prevent workers from being fired for seeking shelter during extreme weather and offer paid time off for workers affected by disasters.
As we push for better worker safety standards, we need immediate action to save lives.
In response to the deadly heat waves, please join me this Labor Day to urge Congress to expand accessible cooling centers and drinking water facilities for workers.
Thank you for taking action. As a former low-wage worker myself, I’m honored to stand with low-wage workers as we push for the dignity and safety that regular, everyday people deserve.
With love,
Cori
