John, Happy Labor Day! Today’s holiday is about honoring the ongoing labor movement, our nation’s working people, and the many leaders who have gotten us to where we are today.
I served as Fire Captain with the Orange County Fire Authority for over thirty years. I’m a proud fourth generation union member and longtime labor leader because I know that unions make us strong.

29 years ago, I was asked to lead a new union of Orange County firefighters in response to the County bankruptcy of 1994. I served as their President for 17 years, Vice President of the OC Labor Federation (AFL-CIO) for 17 years and VP of the California Professional Firefighters for 5 years. I've been a teamster, district representative, and business agent. In all of these roles, I had the honor of a lifetime to fight alongside my peers for fair contracts and wages, good working conditions, healthy benefits, dignity, equal opportunity, and to advance working policies for working people.
