Hey team, I’ll keep this brief so you can get back to enjoying the holiday, but I wanted to share a few quick thoughts to commemorate this Labor Day.
Today, we celebrate the incredible strides made by American workers over the last century – things like 40-hour weeks, paid holidays, minimum wage, workers' comp, unions, all hard-fought and hard-won. That fight is far from over.
This year has been an historic one for workers. Employees at some of the nation’s biggest companies are risking their jobs to demand safe, fair, and dignified working conditions. I’m constantly inspired by their determination to fight for what’s right.
I’m continuing that fight in Congress to raise the federal minimum wage to ensure that every working American makes a livable wage. I’m a proud advocate for Illinois’ unions, and I’ll continue to defend their vital place at the negotiating table.
So, while you’re celebrating today, take a moment to remember the folks who stood (and continue to stand) on the picket lines in hopes of a better future for all of us.
Thanks for reading,
Sean
