🍽 Douglass-Debs Dinner Recap 🍽

Last week we celebrated Atlanta DSA's 15th annual Douglass-Debs awards dinner and fundraiser with labor and community activists from around the city. Thanks to our silent auction, this year's event raised over $4,000, and we attracted even more attendees than last year! Our awards ceremony honored the people’s radio station, WRFG, for its 50th year on 89.3FM with the Milt Tambor Long Distance Runner Award. We also issued an award to Feminist Women’s Health Center for its advocacy for reproductive justice and health care since 1976. We also heard a moving speech about labor organizing and the Teamsters' contract fight from Teamsters 728 steward Elizabeth Laster, plus radical poetry from Alice Lovelace and Theresa Davis. Finally, rank-and-file Teamster Walter Reeves sang about labor hero Shaun Jack Maloney. The rest of the night was full of good food (with vegan options!), laughter, and comradeship! Best of all, we were able to provide many of our DSA and YDSA members with free or cut-rate tickets, which helped us share the night with more DSA members than ever before. Overall it was a great experience, and we are happy to continue the tradition going forward in honor of the events' and our chapters' original founder, Milt Tambor!
