Happy Labor Day, y’all!
Today, I wanted to take a moment to celebrate the working class — the folks that make Louisiana the vibrant, diverse home we all know it to be. Our workers deserve to be uplifted every day, and protected from exploitation, mistreatment, and corporate greed.
Growing up, my daddy worked at a produce company making $26,000 a year and my mama worked in the home taking care of my four siblings and me. When I got older, I followed my parents’ example. I worked hard to save enough money to buy my dream car (a used 1998 Honda Civic) and put myself through college by working full-time as a receptionist at a car dealership while doubling as a waitress at night.
My family didn’t have much, but coming from a working-class background gave me something invaluable — an understanding of how all workers, no matter what they do, deserve dignity, respect, and protection.
I’m not the only one with a story like mine. Many Louisianans live paycheck-to-paycheck, and those are exactly the folks I’ve fought for as a lawyer. I pledge to do the same for all workers as the next Attorney General, and I want you to join me in rededicating yourself to fighting for workers’ rights.
When it comes to workers’s rights, solidarity is everything. So, will you sign onto my petition to show you stand with the workers of Louisiana?
Thank you for supporting this campaign, and workers across the state. Have a wonderful Labor Day!
