Friend,
Late last year, the Trump administration announced plans to cut critical SNAP food stamp benefits for hundreds of thousands of households throughout the country. This will disproportionately harm my congressional district―the third poorest in the country.
One way to combat Donald Trump’s cruelty toward children and families is by investing in community supporters, such as Auntie Na’s House.
For generations, Auntie Na has distributed warm meals and food packages to her neighborhood in Detroit, out of her front room and kitchen. To meet people’s needs, Auntie Na recently purchased an abandoned house on her block and is in the process of converting it to a commercial kitchen and dining area for the community.
Any donations we can make right now will go toward finishing the commercial kitchen and purchasing two refrigerated shipping containers. Plus, the first $50,000 donated will be matched by the Michigan Economic Development Council!
Will you join me in supporting Auntie Na’s House with a generous donation today and help them unlock $50,000 in matching funds?
In addition to providing critical food services to her neighborhood, Auntie Na and her community have created an urban farm, a tutoring and after-school program, and housing for people in need. And they recently launched a walk-in medical center (also previously an abandoned house) where students from the Wayne State School of Medicine provide free health checks, lead tests, HIV testing, nutrition counseling, and more.
A third of the children in Auntie Na’s neighborhood are testing positive for elevated lead levels in their bloodstream. And the majority of children coming to Auntie Na’s live below the poverty line, often eating less than three meals a day.
Auntie Na’s holistic approach to health is transforming the lives of children and families in our community.
Can you make a generous donation to Auntie Na’s House today? Each dollar we raise, up to $50,000, will be matched by the Michigan Economic Development Council.
Thank you for all that you do to support children and families in need.
In gratitude,
Rashida
