John, if you have a job, you deserve a union.
Our district's history is the greatest proof you need for the benefits of
being in a union—and the disadvantages of being kept out of them.
Growing up in Braddock, everyone knew someone who worked in the steel
mills. But for decades, Black workers were the ones who worked so-called
man-killer jobs and weren't allowed to join the union until the 1970's.
So while Black workers came home, bringing the soot from their jobs back
to their families, unable to leave the valley, the robber barrons sat up
in mansions on the hill.
Today, we see the effects of generational wealth inequality on a community
that had their union power stolen from them.
That's exactly what we're building a movement to change. This Labor Day,
we are reminded that all of us are in the fight together for a robust
labor movement that reflects the racial, gender, and industry diversity
that a 21st century labor movement demands.

movement?
We are seeing that 21st century labor movement grow right in front of us
now. Be it the Teamsters who just won a historic contract with UPS, WGA
workers striking for living wages, Starbucks workers in PA-12 making
history with their unionizing efforts, or the UAW workers who voted
overwhelmingly to strike if the Big Three automakers refuse to bargain in
good faith. Workers are fed up with billionaire bosses giving out poverty
wages.
This is the power of our labor movement. We can harness it and transform
our country to work for all of us.
Join us.
