John,
Happy Labor Day! At Love146, this day means more than just a break. Labor Day was established in the late 19th century by the labor movement and marks significant strides in protecting the rights of workers and children.
It was once legal and commonplace for young children in the US to endure grueling work conditions, often missing out on education. Though progress has been made, exploitation persists, especially among children in vulnerable groups like migrants and those in poverty. Today, more than 3 million children are being trafficked for labor and sex, according to the International Labour Organization’s estimates.
Knowing rights is crucial for kids entering the workforce. See and share our Youth Worker Rights Guide, for insights and a downloadable brochure.
When you donate to Love146, you’re a part of empowering youth workers by:
- Helping youth with job readiness, resume preparation, and job training.
-
Equipping businesses employing survivors in our care to create more supportive workplaces.
-
Supporting youth who were trafficked after responding to false job offers.
-
Journeying alongside youth survivors as they begin to dream about their futures.
- Reaching youth with a prevention education curriculum that helps them learn about trafficking and labor exploitation, and who they can reach out to if they need help.
