Happy Labor Day, John.
Today, we recognize the ongoing struggle for labor rights in our country, and the countless union organizers and activists who fought tirelessly for them—often in the face of violent resistance.
Growing up poor and watching my mom and grandparents work around the clock just to scrape by, the Labor Movement is personal to me. I will always stand arm in arm with every worker, union, and labor organizer to advance higher wages, better working conditions, and an economy that benefits the many over the few.
Today, I stand in solidarity with the Labor Movement as we continue building political power for working people to ensure everyone has the right to live a life with purpose and dignity.
Despite sweeping attacks on unions and organized labor by an anti-worker Republican Party, union support has reached a historic high. Over 71% of Americans, Republicans and Independents included, are in support of unions, while nine in 10 Democrats and people under 30 view unions favorably.
Organizing for rights in the workplace is happening right now, and it’s not just happening in factories or construction sites. Workers in law offices, fast food restaurants, retail stores, and local coffee shops are all using their power to demand dignity and respect at every level in the workplace.
Unions and the Labor Movement are our frontline defense against low wages, unsafe working conditions, rising inequality, discrimination, and oppression in all its forms. Nothing is a more powerful force for progress than workers linking arms in solidarity.
I owe my campaign to the countless labor organizers and activists before me, and vow to continue the fight for labor and worker dignity now and always.
Wishing you a happy and safe Labor Day.
In solidarity,
Mondaire
