First off, I just wanted to take a moment to wish you a Happy Labor Day. Today, we celebrate everything the labor movement has fought for and the working people of this country, who are truly the backbone of society.

Today, let us honor the workers who organized to improve conditions for people across the country, from the 40 hour work week to minimum wage. We must continue to fight for workers’ rights to organize, supporting unions that help to grow the middle class and secure better wages, benefits, and working conditions for Rhode Islanders and people across the country.

We have seen many important victories this year. In Rhode Island, wage theft is now a felony, protecting the rightful earnings of working people. New fair contracts have been won both in Rhode Island and nationally, but work remains, and I strongly support a fair resolution for SAG, WGA, and UAW workers who are seeking new agreements.

So this Labor Day, please join me in honoring the accomplishments of the workers who came before us, and towards continuing the fight for working people.
