Women were absolutely pivotal to our first labor movement in Michigan's First District. Anna Clemenc, seen here leading with the American flag marching through Calumet during the Copper Country Strike of 1913, was a fierce activist for the labor movement in Michigan.
Her activism in Northern Michigan and the UP helped change the tide for American workers across the country. She was considered the 'Joan of Arc of the Labor' in Michigan.

This Labor Day, let's remember these courageous individuals and their stories of resilience.
Let's continue their fight in our pursuit of labor reform, ensuring every American worker receives a livable wage, safe working conditions, and the respect they deserve. I stand with our workers today, and every day, and pledge to continue advocating for their rights in Congress.
May we always remember the power of solidarity, the importance of our labor force, and the need to continue striving for better working conditions in every sector - from the mines, to the mills, factories, classrooms, hospitals and coffee shops.
Happy Labor Day, for the union makes us strong.
In Solidarity,
Bob Lorinser
