Hi John,
Tomorrow in parliament MPs have the chance to back an amendment requiring the UK to exit the climate-wrecking Energy Charter Treaty. As MPs return to work today after the summer recess, can you email your MP now and ask them to support it?

With news on Friday that the UK government has formally announced it will review the UK’s membership, the writing’s on the wall for the Energy Charter Treaty. [1]
But the government is still planning to keep dithering until November, waiting to see if a reform of the treaty will pass - a reform we’ve long flagged as weak greenwash, that eleven countries have deemed insufficient and that doesn’t have enough backers to be voted through.
Why keep us locked into the risk of being sued by fossil fuel companies for a moment longer? Fortunately, some MPs are trying to push the UK off the fence: an amendment to the Energy Bill tabled by Conservative MP Chris Skidmore would require the UK to get on with exiting now. [2]
We urgently need to draw more MPs’ attention to the exit-ECT amendment before the Bill’s next reading tomorrow, just a day after MPs return from their summer break.
Can you email your MP today asking them to back the amendment?

Getting as many MPs as possible to add their name to the amendment will help ensure it gets debated tomorrow, so we cut through the government’s dither and delay in taking the decisive action to exit now.
It’s thanks to the lobbying done by supporters like you that we’ve pushed the government to this point and are finding new allies on this urgent issue in parliament. The sooner we can get the UK to join the exodus, the more we stand to gain - a co-ordinated withdrawal from the treaty is the best way to maximise the benefits of leaving.
Please ask your MP to be one of those speaking out.

Thank you for helping us take down the Energy Charter Treaty and the corporate courts that shore up polluters’ profits over people and planet.
