Friends -

Almost 60 years ago — after the Supreme Court ruled school segregation was unconstitutional in Brown v. Board of Education — nine African-American students endured threats and taunts as they entered Little Rock's Central High School in Arkansas for the first time.

Last month — for students at that same school — Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders Dept. of Education declared African American studies classes would not count toward graduation.

Sanders said the class pushed a "leftist agenda teaching our kids to hate America and hate one another."

What a disgrace.

And at Little Rock Central High School of all places...

So today I want to ask for your help — to ask you to do something for the students who want to continue to take the AP African-American studies course at Little Rock Central High School.

Make a contribution to my Campaign for Democracy PAC today and we will send EVERY DOLLAR YOU DONATE to the Arkansas Community Foundation's Ruthie Walls AP African American Studies Scholarship.

CONTRIBUTE NOW:

The fund covers the $98 fee students must pay to take the end-of-course advanced placement exam – something they need to do if their course is going to count for college credit.

The fund also creates "a scholarship for a student at Little Rock Central High School who excels in the AP African American Studies Course."

It has the support of Elizabeth Eckford, one of the Little Rock Nine students who is still alive today. Here's Elizabeth today speaking out against Huckabee Sanders’ decree alongside her trying to enter the school in 1957.

This scholarship fund is an excellent cause and sends an important message to right-wing authoritarian leaders like Huckabee Sanders who want to ban books and erase history.

So please.

Can I count on you to make a contribution to the Arkansas Community Foundation's Ruthie Walls AP African American Studies Scholarship. We will pass along every dollar we raise in response to this message. 100% of them.

DONATE:

Thank you,

Gavin Newsom
