| Honoring Lt. Abraham Schnitzer |
Earlier this week, I recognized the military service and 100th birthday of WWII veteran Lt. Abraham Schnitzer.
Lt. Schnitzer, an officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps, was a navigator in the B-17 and B-24, flying more than 20 successful combat missions over Europe.
It’s always an incredible privilege to honor a member of the Greatest Generation.

| Surveying the Wildfire Devastation |
On Thursday, I saw firsthand the areas devastated by the Shearwood Creek wildfires that burnt almost 3,600 acres of timber, six homes, and several other structures.
It was an honor to meet volunteer firefighters from the Angelina River Volunteer Fire Department, plus countless other firefighters from volunteer agencies across the region, state, and country – there were even crews from Puerto Rico. I also visited with the Texas A&M Forest Service, who were on the fire line fighting these fires as they created firebreaks – many homes and potentially thousands of acres were saved due to their quick and heroic actions.
I continue to pray for those impacted by these fires and extend my heartfelt thanks to the brave men and women who put their lives in danger to prevent further destruction.

I enjoyed meeting with Jasper Economic Development Corporation Director Eddie Hopkins, Lamar State College Port Arthur Vice President Dr. Ben Stafford, Jasper City Councilman DeMarcus Holmes, and Rodney Norsworthy with the Jasper Hospital District to discuss the trucking industry needs of the surrounding region as well as their desire to build a CDL training/testing facility in the city.
Great things are in store for Jasper County!

Thanks to Jasper County Judge Mark Allen for inviting me to join local officials, healthcare professionals, the Jasper County hospital district, and law enforcement in learning more about the new mental health facility that the Beaumont-based Spindletop Center will be opening.
The services offered here will allow folks to receive critical healthcare closer to home.

I learned about the impressive flood mitigation project they’ve implemented to protect four natural gas-fueled combined-cycle units capable of powering more than one million homes!
