We’re halfway through #PublicSchoolsWeek…and we continue celebrating the incredible reclamation of religious liberty happening in our nation’s schools. Today, we’re sharing with you the victory of a brave teenage student who reclaimed her right to live out her faith.
It’s the story of Daniela Barca, a New York student who wanted to form a faith-based club at her school. Shockingly, the school’s administration repeatedly denied her application, and even suggested that a club meeting “to gather and talk about spreading the hope of Jesus” could not be recognized as an official club unless it modified its viewpoint to something more “generic” and “couldn’t limit it to the Christian faith.”
The good news is that Daniela sought First Liberty’s legal help, and because our attorneys quickly intervened, the school reversed its decision and Daniela was allowed to form a club with those who share her Christian faith.
In this exclusive video, watch FLI Counsel Keisha Russell and our team talk with Daniela in more detail about her desire to live out her faith by starting a club. In it, she also shares that even though it’s sometimes difficult to take a stand, it’s important to stand strong by your faith…because reclaiming religious liberty for one student is a giant step in restoring the rights of all students throughout the country.
Our victory on behalf of Daniela should embolden and encourage students nationwide, and it gives us great hope for a bright future. It’s proof that together we’re achieving triumphs and ushering in a new era of religious liberty to be enjoyed by Daniela, as well as by our children and grandchildren.
Yet, opponents of religious freedom are relentlessly trying to silence, censor and punish students of faith. Attacks on our students’ constitutional rights can happen at any time, to just about any student.
That’s why we need YOU to make your voice heard and sign the pledge in support of religious liberty in America’s public schools.
If you haven’t done so already, please consider adding your name to this pledge. It takes less than a minute...and by doing so, you’re making a clear statement that our nation’s educational institutions are no place for censorship.
Together with YOUR SUPPORT, John, First Liberty can keep leading the fight for students like Daniela, and ensure that religious liberty keeps thriving in our public schools.
Yes, I will sign the statement of support for religious liberty in our nation’s public schools.
