John,
It's time to build an economy that works for all of us, not just the wealthy and corporations. But right now our tax code is rigged to enable corporate greed and reward wealth over work.
The 100 biggest corporations that pay the lowest median wages have bought back $341 billion of their own stock since 2020, enriching CEOs and wealthy investors at the expense of workers’ wages and community investment.
At the same time, billionaires often pay lower tax rates than nurses, firefighters, and teachers because our tax code treats income from wealth differently than it treats income from work. In fact, billionaires can go years without paying taxes because their income often comes from the rise in value of stocks, private businesses, and other investments―and they only pay taxes on those wealth gains when they sell those assets.
As we honor and celebrate Labor Day, working people and labor unions across the country are fighting for fair wages, benefits, and better working conditions—a fight fundamental to an economy that works for all of us, not just the wealthy and corporations.
Donate today to fight for an economy and a tax code that rewards work, not wealth, and demand Congress put working people first.
While we’re fighting for policies that uplift working people and hold greedy corporations accountable, Republicans are fighting to repeal the Inflation Reduction Act, which, among other things, enacted a 1% tax on stock buybacks to encourage corporations to invest in workers’ wages, not shareholders’ profits.
We’re raising some revenue from the buyback tax, but corporations are still wasting their money on share repurchases. So President Biden, along with key tax champions in the Senate, have called for raising that 1% tax to 4%, to better get the corporations’ attention.
We’re also fighting for a Billionaire Minimum Income Tax to make billionaires pay taxes on their wealth gains each year, just like working people pay on their wages.
All these reforms fight back against the lie of trickle-down economics that pads the pockets of millionaires, billionaires, and corporations at the expense of working people.
This Labor Day weekend, pitch in to fight for an economy and a tax system that works for working people, not just the wealthy and corporations.

When we make the wealthy and corporations pay their fair share in taxes, we can invest in our entire economy, not just those at the top.
