Hi John, People across the country get it, now politicians are taking note - we must protect our oceans. Incredibly, after voters told them to, almost 100 MPs have committed to ask the Prime Minister to back a strong Global Ocean Treaty that would put a third of our blue planet off limits to destructive industries. But if the Prime Minister doesn’t take this problem seriously by sending a senior minister to the treaty talks in 3 weeks then the treaty could fail to properly protect our oceans. Will you urge your MP to put pressure on the Prime Minister? Right now, only 1% of our global oceans are protected and studies have shown that marine life is disappearing at twice the speed of life on land [1]. It’s painfully obvious, our oceans need protecting [2]. A strong Global Ocean Treaty would result in historic and ambitious ocean protection, so we need every voice and every MP to help make a this reality. This treaty could pave the way for protection of 30% of our oceans by 2030 - giving our global oceans time to recover from climate change, oil drilling and plastic pollution. In just 3 weeks, world governments will have the chance to make this ambitious global treaty a reality. Can you use your voice and put pressure on the government to deliver historic ocean protection? This is one of the best chances we have at protecting our blue planet. We can make history, but we need every single voice, every single name, and every MP taking action. Take action too.
This is people power. In just under two weeks, over 40 MPs have committed to write to the Prime Minister to protect our oceans. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, almost every single MP has been emailed. Can you email your MP and ask them to write to the Prime Minister to protect our oceans? To achieve a Global Ocean Treaty we need every single voice. It’s one of the biggest conservation efforts in history - but it’s desperately needed because our global ocean and it’s wildlife are under threat. Right now, our crew of scientists are in the Antarctic - but what they’ve discovered makes the need for a Global Ocean Treaty even more pressing. Penguin numbers have dropped in the Antarctic by almost 60% - with some colonies losing as much as three quarters of their population since they were last counted. [1] That’s why we need a Global Ocean Treaty, and we need one now. Can you email your MP and ask them to write to the Prime Minister?
Thank you for everything you do,
