John,
Republicans want us to work until we die.
Life expectancy in the U.S. has decreased in recent years, impacting communities of color the most. Black and Indigenous folks now have life expectancies that range from just 65 – 70 years old.1
The Social Security retirement age has already been raised to 67 years old. And now, many Republicans want to raise it even higher. They claim the only way to “save” Social Security is to cut benefits. But raising the retirement age would result in millions of people never collecting a dime of their hard-earned benefits.
The true solution to protecting the future of Social Security is making high-income earners pay their fair share. That’s why I’m proud to support Sen. Bernie Sanders’s Social Security Expansion Act, which expands Social Security benefits by $2,400 a year and ensures the trust fund is fully funded for the next 75 years.
This Labor Day weekend, let’s fight for the rights of working people to be able to retire in dignity and not have to work until they die. Sign now to tell Republicans: We will NOT raise the Social Security retirement age!
Last month, Social Security turned 88 years old. Before Social Security, 50% of seniors lived in poverty. Today, that number is less than 10%―still too high, but a major improvement for the 50 million seniors who rely on Social Security each year.
Because of its decades of success, Social Security is under constant attack by conservatives and their Wall Street donors who want to get their hands on our hard-earned benefits.
Right-wing plans to raise the retirement age or cut Social Security Administration funding are intended to put up barriers between us and our benefits and undermine confidence in the program.
In my district alone, we have over 178,000 residents over the age of 55. For many, Social Security is their sole source of income, while others are nearing retirement age and will rely on Social Security to help meet their basic needs of food, housing, and utilities.
Let’s not make working people work until they die. Sign now to tell Republicans we will not raise the Social Security retirement age!
Thank you for fighting by my side to protect workers’ rights and expand Social Security for current and future generations.
