Dear Mr. xxxxxx:
Good Saturday morning. College football is officially back and I know a lot of people are looking forward to it and to fall, since it's been so hot this summer.
Congress has been in recess the entire month of August, so I want to dedicate this newsletter to just showing some of the visits I've made across the 4th Congressional District.
But before we get to photos from August, I do want to briefly touch on the Space Command decision made by President Biden. This decision was made after Congress had left Washington and I believe it was made entirely for political and personal reasons. This fight is not over yet. I did an interview with Channel 13 in Birmingham this week about Space Command, which you can watch here.
Northport Mayor and City Administrator
I got to spend time with Northport Mayor John Hinton and City Administrator Glenda Webb. Northport, which is just across the Black Warrior River from Tuscaloosa is growing at a fast pace. It was good hearing some of the plans they have and how I can try and help them with those plans and goals.
University of Alabama National Water Center
While I was in Tuscaloosa County, we also visited the National Water Center, which is on the campus of the University of Alabama. This center is responsible for issuing flood forecasts for the entire nation. For example, they were heavily involved in helping with forecasting for the hurricane that hit Florida this week. The information is used to help determine which areas need to be evacuated before storms and flooding occur.
Tuscaloosa ALFA Dinner
Caroline and I also got to attend the annual meeting of the Tuscaloosa County Farmers Federation. Farmers and farming are so important to the 4th District. It's a large part of our economy and it puts food on our tables and clothes on our backs.
Boaz Rotary Club
It's always so good to meet with the men and woman of the Boaz Rotary Club hosted by Snead State Community College. We had a big crowd, a good discussion and some great chicken fingers!
4th District League of Municipalities Meeting
For the second year in a row, we had the 4th District League of Municipalities meeting in Guntersville. This is a gathering of all of the mayors and city officials from across the 4th District to come together and hear about what's going on in Washington and how it might impact their local area.
Guin Tesla Charging Station
Tesla has installed en electric vehicle charging station at the Holiday Inn located along Interstate 22 in Guin. While I certainly do not support government mandates when it comes to electric vehicles, I'm always looking for new and innovative ways to bring growth and economic development to our communities. So, as more people drive electric vehicles, and until the batteries get better than they are now, people will need these charging stations frequently, and that means other tourist dollars coming to towns with these stations.
Visiting Red Bay in Franklin County
We made a stop in Red Bay in Franklin County. I got a tour of Tiffin Motor Homes. Red Bay is where they make them. And I also got to have lunch with Red Bay City Councilman Brad Bolton, Mayor Charlene Fancher and Franklin County Probate Judge Barry Moore.
Lauderdale County Future 911 Center
As you may know, about two-thirds of Lauderdale County is now in the 4th District. The other third remains in the 5th District, represented by Congressman Dale Strong. Congressman Strong and I recently got a chance to tour what will be the future home of the Lauderdale County 911 center. A former bank location is being renovated to house 911. And the bank's old vault will actually serve as a storm shelter for employees.
NACOLG Fish Fry
After the 911 center tour, Caroline and I attended the annual NACOLG Fish Fry in Florence. NACOLG, which stands for Northwest Alabama Council of Local Governments, is a coalition of local governments in Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Winston and Marion Counties. We always enjoy attending this event every year. I always say that catfish is my favorite seafood.
Honoring United States Marine and Businessman Roy Drinkard
Last weekend I got a chance to honor Roy Drinkard of Cullman. Roy turned 103 in July and I had a flag flown over the United States Capitol in honor of the occasion. Roy is a successful businessman, but he is also a very proud United States Marine. He is believed to be the oldest living U.S. Marine.
War Eagle, Roll Tide! And since UNA is now in the 4th District, of course Roar Lions!
I hope you have a great September. I will be in touch soon.
May God bless you and your loved ones.
Sincerely,
Robert B. Aderholt
