You know what they say about the weather in Texas: if you don't like it, just give it five minutes. Maybe we should apply that to our politics too.
You know what they say about the weather in Texas: if you don't like it, just give it five minutes. Maybe we should apply that to our politics too. Just a few days ago, polling showed that a sizable majority of Texas Democrats had lined up behind Joe Biden's presidential bid. Then the next thing I know, a one Bernard Sanders is staging a whistle stop tour of Texas with packed rallies and chants of "Bernie!" that would rival (in volume and size) a typical Trump rally. There's general agreement at the moment that the Vermont senator has pulled ahead of the pack here and nationwide, which means Super Tuesday will be an exciting and important one. We'll have special coverage on election night, March 3rd, so stay tuned. And amid all the change in the Lone Star State comes the end of an era: make sure to listen to our own Kristin Cabrera's beautiful despedida on bloodless bullfighting in South Texas, below. And until next Wednesday, we'll see ya on the radio.

@shelly

Hey y'all. I'm a senior editor for The Texas Newsroom, a collaboration between NPR and the state’s four largest public radio stations: KUT in Austin, KERA in Dallas, Texas Public Radio in San Antonio, and Houston Public Media. I'm usually based in Dallas (where I live), but this week I'm visiting KUT and helping produce segments for the Standard. I do a lot of different things in my job – everything from working with our statewide newscast team, to editing with reporters at smaller Texas stations like Marfa Public Radio and KACU Abilene, to coordinating NPR and stations coverage of big news events. Those big, all-hands-on-deck moments cover a real spectrum: things we know are in the offing, like sessions of the Texas Legislature, to evolving and unexpected instances, like Hurricane Harvey, or the mass shootings in El Paso. News can be a intense business sometimes – but while I'm mostly an editor nowadays, I also still get a chance to do my own reporting on some interesting and off-beat stories.
