Dear friend,
Every day, FAMM gets phone calls from dozens of people around the country. People who care about justice, who are reentering their communities, or who have loved ones serving long sentences in prison. Often we hear about terrible prison conditions. Those calls are vital — they keep us informed and help us pick our battles.
Today, I'm writing to ask that you make a contribution so we can see those battles through. Will you give a gift to FAMM so we can continue advocating better prison conditions? http://support.famm.org/site/Donation2?df_id=1675&1675.donation=form1&mfc_pref=T&autologin=true
Last May, FAMM sent a letter to the Department of Justice that resulted in an investigation of the Mississippi State Penitentiary at Parchman. We knew we had to do something after receiving many complaints about horrendous conditions: The cells, already overcrowded, were flooding. Violence was rampant. Mold was everywhere. People in Parchman were suffering — in fact, there have been 18 deaths there this year alone.
Then when we asked you to call the U.S. Attorney's Offices for Mississippi, hundreds of you picked up the phone to voice your concerns. Next, we asked that you sign our petition to close Parchman, and more than 1,500 of you took action.
Now, we're asking that you make a contribution so we can further the fight for a system that builds people up instead of breaking them down. Will you give what you can to help FAMM push for independent oversight of our nation's prisons? http://support.famm.org/site/Donation2?df_id=1675&1675.donation=form1&mfc_pref=T&autologin=true
Together, we can create the change we need to ensure there are no more Parchmans.
Sincerely,
Kevin Ring President, FAMM
