Hi friends
In 2012, my son Jordan was shot and killed by a man who claimed his music was too loud.
Following his death, I told myself that I never wanted another family to go through what we went through. After years of watching our elected leaders fail to act, the Parkland shooting was the final straw – I decided to run for Congress in 2018 and tell my family's story on the campaign trail.
My family’s story is not unique. Over 110 Americans are killed by gun violence almost every day. I refuse to stand idly by and wait for another person to be lost to senseless and avoidable gun violence.
That’s why in 2022, I was proud to join NewDems in voting to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and send it to President Biden’s desk for a signature – strengthening background checks, keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, and investing in mental health services.
But the work isn’t finished: We need to keep pushing for stronger common-sense gun safety legislation to stop America’s ongoing epidemic of gun violence. If you support NewDems’ work to end gun violence in the House, sign on to stand with us. »
NewDems were able to get the first major piece of gun violence prevention legislation the Senate has passed in over 25 years across the finish line because of our commitment to finding common ground across political lines. Our nation’s gun violence epidemic is not a political issue, it’s an American issue that impacts all of us. We must tackle this crisis together.
The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act was a critical first step, but Congress must do more to save lives. If you support NewDem’s work to end gun violence in the House, sign on to stand with me today. »
Thank you,
Rep. Lucy McBath (GA-07)
