Two Victories in Mississippi!

Historic news from Mississippi: on Tuesday, Spotlight candidate Fabian Nelson WON his runoff! And even better? As of right now, Fabian does not have an opponent in the general election (we’ll let you know if that changes), virtually ensuring he’ll be sworn-in in January!

Mississippi is one of two states that has never elected and seated an out LGBTQ+ state legislator - we've only elected a handful of LGBTQ+ candidates in the state's history! Fabian will OFFICIALLY shatter this rainbow ceiling once and for all this November.

Victory Fund went all-in to support Fabian's campaign. Here's how:

• At the beginning of Fabian's campaign, we deployed staff on the ground, helping him draft his narrative, campaign messaging strategy and literature;
• Victory staff organized phone banks and joined Fabian on the campaign trail, knocking doors and organizing volunteers;
• We promoted his campaign to our national network, ensuring access to new supporters (like you!) and encouraged other organizations to show their support;
• Thanks to our national network of advocates, we were able to raise over $50,000 that went towards Fabian's campaign!

Fabian put in the work - and we ensured it paid off.

And what’s better than one win? Two wins! Justin Lofton, running for the Pike County Board of Supervisors, won his runoff by just 27 votes. He defeated a long-time incumbent!

Spotlight candidate Danica Roem’s opponent, Bill Woolf, has been using his social media and campaign platforms to champion anti-trans bills, as well as spread horrific anti-trans talking points. Read the full report from The Washington Blade here.

ICYMI: Danica has faced anti-trans opponents before. In fact, she’s already defeated three of them: in 2017, 2019 and again in 2021. He’s campaigning with anti-LGBTQ Governor Glenn Youngkin and proudly touts his endorsement. He’s promoting the QAnon movie of the summer, Sound of Freedom.
