This week, it was announced that the first of Donald Trump's pending
criminal trials will begin on March 4th, 2024, for his alleged actions in
attempting to overturn the 2020 election.

Trial dates have additionally been set for March 24th and May 20th over
Trump’s purported hush money payments to adult film actor Stormi Daniels
and for Special Counsel Jack Smith’s case for Trump’s alleged mishandling
of classified documents.

John, we know
that Trump and his allies at Fox News and other conservative-friendly
outlets are going to do everything they can to push out a steady stream of
disinformation in a blatant attempt to undermine the judicial system and
the criminal cases against him.

But there’s one solution that would cut through the right-wing’s lies and
false spins and give the public a transparent look into an unprecedented
criminal trial — televising Trump’s trials live.

[ [link removed] ]John, if you
agree that Trump's trials should be televised, can you take a moment and
add your name to our petition?

We’re not the only ones calling for Trump’s trials to be televised.
Earlier this month, a group of 38 House members sent a letter asking for
an exception to be made to both the D.C.-based 2020 election case and
Florida-based case involving Trump’s improper handling of classified
documents given the extraordinary importance to our democratic
institutions and the need for transparency.

Currently, cameras are not allowed in federal courtrooms or in New York
state courtrooms, where Trump’s hush money payment trial is taking place.
Georgia is a different story however — earlier this week, Fulton County
Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee granted a request from four local
Atlanta news stations to allow cameras in the courtroom.

For the sake of transparency and for our democracy, Trump’s trials must be
televised in full to allow the public to witness these historic
proceedings. This will not only serve to uphold the rule of law but also
reaffirm faith in the process of finding out the truth.

The dangers of choosing not to televise these trials cannot be
understated,
John. Outlets like Fox News
and bad actors like Donald Trump and Tucker Carlson are engines of
misinformation for right-wing propaganda and we cannot allow their
narratives to become dominant.

At a moment when our democracy’s future is at stake, we must fight to
demand the truth.
