The People's Response Act grants funding to community-based organizations that provide alternatives to policing in incidents involving people in mental health crises. If passed, this bill would help ensure communities are equipped with unarmed first responders to care for those experiencing mental health crises, and increase access to support programs for violence interruption, housing security, youth, families, survivors of violence, and individuals leaving the carceral system.1
We need leaders who are dedicated and determined to find solutions to the issues we all face — not exacerbate them further with harmful legislation and policies.
