Howdy Texan –

Over the last three weeks, I've traveled 2,458 miles around Central Texas, so now is a good time for another update on my work for Texas' 31st district.

ON THE DOCKET:

  • Congressional Veteran Commendation
  • Casework Update
  • Visiting the Highland Lakes Squadron Commemorative Air Force
  • Celebrating the Trades

THE BRIEF:

  • President Biden said he will request money from Congress to develop a new coronavirus vaccine. Please let me know what you think about this topic below.
  • Today, 774 new state laws come into effect in Texas.
  • The Pew Research survey found that 52% of Americans polled said they are "more concerned than excited" by the increased use of AI in daily life.

CONGRESSIONAL VETERAN COMMENDATION

The nomination deadline for the Congressional Veteran Commendation (CVC) is Thursday, September 7th, at 5:00 p.m. The CVC is a nominations-based program recognizing veterans' military and community service in the 31st Congressional District of Texas. These honorees are exceptional Americans who have served our country and now serve our community.

I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Should Congress fund the development of a new coronavirus vaccine?
Yes
No

CONSTITUENT SERVICES UPDATE

During August, my office helped 184 constituents with issues involving a federal agency. We also returned over $91,000 that was stuck behind bureaucratic red tape to Central Texans.

HIGHLAND LAKES SQUADRON- COMMEMORATIVE AIR FORCE

I visited the Highland Lakes Squadron Commemorative Air Force in Burnet County. I appreciated touring the World War II museum and seeing the historical helicopters and planes. During my visit, we discussed their next airshow on March 16, 2024, and how they work closely with the Federal Aviation Administration to ensure a safe event.

CELEBRATING TRADE OPPORTUNITIES

I recently joined S&D Plumbing, Coppera Plumbing & Commercial Services, the City of Taylor, and Williamson County officials to celebrate a new pre-apprenticeship and registered apprenticeship training program in Taylor. This program will allow Central Texas students and young people to train in an in-demand field and secure a well-paying job in the plumbing industry.

I've long been a champion of career and technical education. For a generation, America has pushed 4-year degrees and ignored the importance and opportunity of trade careers. We must continue to educate young people on their options in the trade fields. In addition, if you know of an outstanding career and technical education (CTE) student, nominate them for my CTE award early next year.

As always, thank you for taking the time to stay updated on what's happening in Texas' 31st congressional district. Follow my Facebook and Twitter accounts for more updates.

Representing you and Texas in the United States House is an honor and privilege.

Sincerely,

John R. Carter
