Irving, TX - As August is coming to a close, I hope you all are looking forward to a 3-day weekend and the start of September!
On Monday, I had the opportunity to tour the Parkland AIDS Clinic in Dallas where I learned more about their HIV clinic and cancer program.
| |
I also met with the Texas Association of Business at our district office where we had a productive discussion about immigration policy, U.S.-Mexico trade policy, and semiconductors.
Later that night, I had a meeting with the U.S. - India Chamber of Commerce at our district office. I appreciated the chance to learn about their priorities and I look forward to continuing to work together in the future.
On Tuesday, I had the chance to meet with FSI-Defense! They supply instructors, curriculum, simulators, and classroom instruction to every Air Force pilot training class that comes through each base! FSI’s commercial operation instructs professional pilots in Fort Worth using FAA-certified simulators.
After, I headed to ABC Eyes, Pediatric Ophthalmology PA in Grapevine to discuss an issue very near and dear to my heart: children’s vision issues. My daughter needed nine eye surgeries by the age of one and was denied coverage for surgery. In Congress, I’m working to improve access to coverage and care for all our children.
I ended Tuesday with a tour of Cintra where I was given a helicopter tour of the recently opened 3C project in North Tarrant County! Cintra helped finance and design the new highway system on I-35W on behalf of the Texas Department of Transportation. This project is a great example of public administrations and private enterprise working hand in hand to make communities better!
On Wednesday, I held another human trafficking-focused roundtable with local leaders to discuss solutions to end this crisis with affects almost 18,000 people in the United States every year.
On Thursday, I had the chance to tour Dallas International District, a 450-acre district in the Valley View-Galleria Special Purpose District that celebrates, encourages and inspires the diverse people and businesses of North Texas.
After, I had the opportunity to meet with students and faculty at West Coast University in Richardson. I was given a campus tour and demonstrations of the technology they use for their Master of Physician Assistant and Bachelor of Science in Nursing degrees.
I finished Thursday by meeting with Chris Miller, T-Mobile's head of tax. We discussed how the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) has significantly helped their business expand. As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, I'm working to build off the TCJA's successful pro-growth tax provisions.
At the 2023 North Texas Job Fair we had more than 16,000 people and 375 employers attend! Thank you to everyone who joined us, I enjoyed meeting so many job creators and seekers from North Texas. Jobseekers, we’d love your feedback!

Texas-24 Work of the Week
According to a recent report, the Small Business Administration (SBA) wasted MILLIONS of taxpayer dollars overpaying a contractor for running COVID-19 loan programs. On top of that, this contractor outsourced some of the work to big businesses – a total slap in the face to the small businesses the agency is supposed to help!
As Chairman of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Oversight, Regulations, and Investigations, I’m working to investigate the SBA’s misappropriation of taxpayer dollars, mishandling of contracts, and failure to safeguard funds meant for small businesses.

This week's Texas-24 Hometown Hero is Doyle Rader, Regional Communications Manager at the American Red Cross. Doyle was one of the first North Texans to rush in to help Maui residents after the devastating fires. He coordinated with hundreds of volunteers from around the country to assist survivors across three emergency shelters in Hawaii.
Thank you, Doyle, for all you do to help others – North Texas, and the country, are better off because of people like you!
