With the advent of streaming services, major media outlets are finding new ways to exploit writers and actors by failing to compensate them for the residuals created by streaming their work. Meanwhile, the rise of artificial intelligence puts creatives at risk of losing their jobs in what is a fundamentally human industry.
Striking writers and actors, the forces behind Hollywood for generations, are not asking for a lot. They seek only dignity and respect in the form of fair compensation and job security, and what they’re fighting for reflects a greater pattern in the modern labor movement.
Right now, workers across the country are standing up for their right to better wages, better working conditions, and a seat at the table. Employees at Starbucks, Trader Joe’s, UPS, and elsewhere are making their voices heard and highlighting the value they bring to the companies that have exploited them. And they’re winning despite the efforts of powerful corporations to prevent changes affecting their bottom line.
Now it’s Hollywood’s turn. Tell the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers: Listen to the Demands of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA.
In solidarity,
