Greetings,
We hope you have had a great week and enjoy the first day of September today! It was great being across the district throughout August, enjoying some summer sun before we head toward sweater weather. As we head into the Labor Day weekend, our office hopes families are having a smooth transition back into the school year and have the chance to relax over the three-day weekend.
This week, we also celebrated National Beach Day, so of course we have to shout out our Shore for having the best beaches out there.
As always, we hope you find these updates and resources helpful.
Congressman Kim Introduces Department of Defense Ethics and Anti-Corruption Act
From his time in national security, Congressman Kim knows how important it is that across our federal government, duty and service comes first. This week, he introduced the Department of Defense Ethics and Anti-Corruption Act to limit the influence of contractors on the military, restrict foreign influence on retired senior military officers, and assert greater transparency over contractors and their interaction with the Department of Defense (DoD).
This bill would help root out conflicts of interest, restore Americans’ trust in government, and make sure that Americans know our national security leaders have their backs. He was proud to introduce this bill as a companion to Senator Elizabeth Warren’s bill in the Senate.
Recognizing Overdose Awareness Day
Yesterday, we helped recognize Overdose Awareness Day and reflect on the stories from families torn apart by struggles with substance use disorders. These stay with us everyday and their lives guide Congressman Kim in his work to end the opioid epidemic.
Congressman Kim was proud to reintroduce his Solutions Not Stigmas Act this Congress to expand and develop education and training programs for substance use disorder (SUD) prevention and treatment. It would help open the possibility for informed conversations and give more people the tools necessary to tackle addiction and substance use disorders that will save lives.
A Big Step Toward Lower Drug Costs on Major Prescriptions
Thanks to the work of the Inflation Reduction Act, on Tuesday this week The Department of Health and Human Services selected the first list of 10 drugs for Medicare drug price negotiation. Congressman Kim fought to pass historic healthcare savings to relieve millions of burdensome, unfair costs, including on essential medicines like these to treat diabetes, improve heart health, and more. These savings will come in part through the law’s historic achievement, finally allowing Medicare to negotiate the prices of prescription drugs for the first time.
It is great to see this historic law continuing to create the everyday savings people need and deserve.
