Earlier this week, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill became the latest site of a shooting.

My heart and deepest condolences go out to the victim's family and the entire UNC community.

I am immensely grateful to first responders for the swift response to stop the gunman. This incident, like the hundreds of other devastating mass shootings in our country, left our community at a standstill and students and faculty members fearing for their lives.

No student, faculty member, or parent should experience the horrific tragedy that UNC faced.

Today, I remain steadfast in my commitment to passing common sense lifesaving gun reform and urge my colleagues across the aisle to join us in reducing gun violence.

We simply can't afford to wait.
