PROGRAM UPDATES:
Water Drop Program

Thank you to everyone who was part of last weekend’s August water drop. Coming after the loss of Jose Luis Rendon Diaz (Volviendo a Casa recipient), we were reminded of the importance of our work in the desert. In the aftermath of Hurricane Hilary, we found the need to replenish the three sites we visited, and also found many consumed items. We are once again facing a heat wave at our southern border, and are so grateful to all of our volunteers who joined us to drop over a dozen gallons of water as well as care packages filled with canned food, electrolytes, cooling towels and messages of love for migrants crossing through the excessive dessert heat.

We are committed to assisting our migrant siblings, as well as ensuring our volunteers do so in the safest way possible. Buena Suerte❤️, (good luck)

Caravan of Love

Our Caravan of Love returned this month, and this time we visited Assail shelter for the first time! Assabil shelter is the first Muslim shelter in Mexico, and we are also the first non-Muslim organization to support a Muslim shelter. For many of us, this volunteer event was very educational and informative, and we are honored to have director Sonya, and the many families residing in that shelter, welcome us so openly.

Along with our volunteers, we drove over caravan style into Tijuana to deliver donations in kind such as hygiene items, non-perishable food, clothes, and more. We are so grateful to our volunteers, to Psicologos Sin Fronteras, B.C., and to all of you who were unable to attend, but still found time to purchase donations from our wishlist. Thank you your continued support!

News Spotlight:

A 10th bus of asylum seekers arrives in L.A. from Texas
A bus carrying 39 people seeking asylum arrived at Union Station from Texas on Saturday morning, the 10th such bus Gov. Greg Abbott has dispatched to Los Angeles since June.

The group of migrants are asylum seekers from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela, according to a statement from the L.A. Welcomes Collective, a network of nonprofit organizations, faith groups and city and county services.

“They arrived obviously tired, exhausted after a long trip, but none seem emaciated or ill,” said Jorge-Mario Cabrera, a spokesman for the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, a member of the collective. “They are desperate to get off the bus, but they are not distraught.”

Heat wave scorches San Diegans through Wednesday
This summer so far has been warmer than usual starting back in July and it isn't quite ready to let up yet. A record-setting heat wave moved into Southern California Monday, and is expected to last for two days before it starts to cool down again.

Temperatures are predicted to be between 95 and 105 in valley regions and desert areas. The mountains could see temperatures in triple digits as well.
