Jack, as I write this, a Category 3 hurricane has made landfall in Florida, heading towards Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. In just the last month, climate change related weather events in every corner of the country have cost us lives, culture, and property, further exacerbating already extreme income inequality.
Sign the petition to Congress: We can’t allow Big Banks to continue putting polluter profits over people. Pass the Fossil Free Finance Act to require that banks stop financing fossil fuels!

Still, multinational financial institutions continue to lend billions to the fossil fuel industry and their allies, despite public platitudes about addressing climate change. In the last year, the world's largest banks have dumped $668.6 billion into fossil fuel companies. Without immediate action by the finance sector, climate-fueled weather disasters will continue and expand, worldwide.
The Fossil Free Finance Act would require big banks to stop financing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and instead lend and invest responsibly. This would also align bank lending with U.S. obligations under the Paris Agreement.
We learned during the Great Recession that banks cannot be trusted to regulate themselves—not when it comes to mortgages and not when it comes to curbing the impacts of climate change. The Fossil Free Finance Act will go a long way to holding the banks that continue to uplift and support fossil fuel companies accountable.
