Help to elect a Congress who will listen to the science!
Hi John,
A dangerous class of carcinogens are getting into our food and water — they’re even in kale. Researchers recently found alarming levels of “forever chemicals” in seven out of eight samples of kale they tested. Even the organic kale tested positive!
The scientific community has taken to referring to this class of chemicals — PFAS and PFOA — as “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down. But you know what’s not “forever?” A career in Congress.
PFAS chemicals are known to cause cancer, disrupt our endocrine systems, and cause pregnancy complications. They're unfortunately not just being found in our kale — they’re in water supplies in every state.
Food & Water Action introduced federal legislation to help fund resources for local water systems, so these “forever chemicals” can be filtered out of the water supply. In 2022, we elected new members of Congress who are signed on as supporters of this legislation — called the Water Affordability, Transparency, Equity and Reliability (WATER) Act.
In 2022, Food & Water Action knocked on 27,000 doors and made 430,000 calls to voters in key battleground districts, electing new Democrats like Chris Deluzio to Congress. And we’re continuing this voter outreach work in 2023 — we’ve already knocked on 40,000 doors this year!
Food & Water Action and its affiliated organization, Food & Water Watch, are advocacy groups with a common mission to protect our food, water and climate.
