This past spring, America turned its eyes to Wisconsin. With abortion rights and democracy on the line, progressives focused on the Supreme Court race, and we won. This summer, we directed our attention to Ohio, where, again, a critical race with implications for reproductive freedom could’ve flown under the radar but didn’t: we won that one too.
This fall, with every seat in their legislature up for grabs and abortion rights on the line again, progressives in Virginia are wondering… Where is everybody?
“So much is at stake in terms of controlling the legislature and I just don’t see that same national energy,” said Democratic Senator Mark Warner, warning of “how important Virginia could be not just this year, but next as well.”
The oodles of money, volunteer hours, and national energy that flowed into Wisconsin and Ohio just haven't come to Virginia yet, and progressives there are ringing the alarm bells.
That’s why we’re starting The Bellwether, an every-other-week newsletter about everything that’s at stake in Virginia and how you can get involved directly in the fight for abortion rights in the Commonwealth.
