Oldham gears up for Tour of Britain
It's finally happening! After weeks of excitement, get ready for the Tour of Britain this weekend!
People are set to line the streets on Sunday 3 September to watch more than 100 of the world’s top professional cyclists make their way through Saddleworth, Shaw and Crompton.
Working in tandem with the Tour of Britain organisers, Oldham Council is supporting local activities in High Crompton Park and Shaw's George Street Skate Park which residents can enjoy for free during the day, including lots of crafts and activities for all the family.
A competition to reward the best-decorated homes and businesses along the main route has also been organised by the council.
Decorations must tie in with the theme and spirit of the race in order to take part - so plenty of reds, whites, and blues should be on show - and to enter you must complete an online form on the council's website[here]([link removed])before Monday 4 September. The winning business and homeowner will both receive a voucher worth £100. So let's get creative!
It's going to be a great event, we can't wait to see you there! Make sure you take plenty of photographs and we'll share them on our social media!

Back to School: Important Information
As the summer holidays draw to a close, schools are preparing to reopen this week. To ensure a smooth transition for your child back to the classroom, here are some key details you need to know:
Return Dates for Your Child's School
The reopening dates can vary depending on the school. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, visit your child's school website. Remember, it's vital for your child to attend during the first week of term.
Preparing your child for school after the summer break can be a busy time. If you're worried about the expenses, here's some useful information that might help:
School Uniforms
Many schools offer a uniform scheme to help with costs. If new uniforms are a strain on your budget, don't worry. Schools often have second-hand uniform items in good condition that you can get.
School Meals
If your child attends a state-funded school, you might be eligible for free school meals. It's worth checking if you qualify. For more details and to determine eligibility, you can visit: [School Meals Eligibility.]([link removed])
Important notice
You may have seen in the news yesterday that the Government has told schools in England that buildings with reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) must be closed.
We're happy to confirm that there have been no buildings found in Oldham Council schools made with this material.
We have also been in contact with the DfE and they have said they would inform us if any faith schools are found to have RAAC. They have not told us that there are any.
We hope your child has an excellent start to the new term, if you need any further information, check our [Back to School section.]([link removed])
