John,

Many of us are getting ready to enjoy a three-day weekend that celebrates the achievement of workers’ rights in America. We’ve made a lot of progress. But has enough improved for workers in this country?

Workers are laboring tirelessly in some of the most grueling jobs — but their wages are stalled at appallingly low levels. People are unable to build savings, start a business, or own their home — all critical to building generational wealth. And people of color are feeling it the most — and receiving the least support.

Our economy’s broken, working for only a certain few. It’s time for a change, and we need your help to make a difference. Please make a donation today to advance Prosperity Now’s work for racial and ethnic economic [[link removed]]equity — we rely on gifts from individuals like you to help make huge strides in changing our economy. For over 40 years, Prosperity Now has been committed to finding solutions that break down barriers so all people can build wealth for their families. Here are the facts:

40% of White-owned businesses receive all the non-emergency financing they ask for. Compared to only 13% of Black-owned businesses.

Because they struggle to find funding from banks, Latines are more likely than any other ethnic group to use personal credit cards to start their businesses. This means much more personal financial risk.

And if Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) started and owned businesses at the same rate as White people, they would add approximately 9.5 million jobs to the US economy!

These facts are not just statistics, John, they represent real lives and untapped potential. We must start breaking down the barriers that stop people of color from thriving financially. Every day, Americans are feeling the crunch of our tightening economy, with Americans of color feeling it the most.

But we have the power to start changing lives now: [[link removed]]

We won’t stop fighting until we permanently change socioeconomic policy so people have high-quality jobs, a $15 minimum wage, federal paid family leave, universal preschool, and affordable childcare, and all they need to build financial stability and mobility so they can get ahead.

We’re pushing Community Development Financial Institutions — like credit unions, banks, loan funds, and venture capital funds — to provide information on local and federal benefit programs to entrepreneurs for health insurance, retirement benefits, paid leave, and other financial wellness programs to support employees.

Prosperity Now is investing in bold new ideas to advance racial and ethnic economic justice, working deeply at the grassroots and national level to impact the entire economic system.

You can be a part of that change today, John. Your support fuels our work to change policy and build life-changing programs for people in need. Let’s build a prosperous future [[link removed]]together now — make a gift today.
