Moderators for the 2nd GOP debate unveiled

The affair will take place on Sept. 27 at the

Fox News Media's Stuart Varney and Dana Perino alongside UNIVISION's Ilia Calderón will be the co-moderators of the second Republican debate, the networks announced on Wednesday.

The debate, which will be broadcast on FOX Business Network (FBN) and UNIVISION, will take place on Sept. 27 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California.

Seven candidates in the field have so far qualified for the debate. That includes Donald Trump, who is unlikely to attend as he has said he's not doing the first two debates. Read more

Donald Trump extended his lead over his Republican nomination rivals in a series of polls conducted since the release of his mugshot in Fulton County after he surrendered on charges that he conspired to subvert the 2020 election in Georgia and his absence from the first GOP primary debate.

The former US president held commanding advantages across the board in recent surveys done for the Trump campaign and for Morning Consult, recent surveys done for the Trump campaign and for Morning Consult, leading his nearest challenger, Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida, in the overall race, in a head-to-head matchup, and in favorability ratings.

That outcome has been a trend for Trump who has seen polling and fundraising boosts with each indictment this year - in the hush-money case in New York, in the classified documents case in Florida, and in the federal 2020 election subversion case in Washington. Read more

 

These young Republicans want the GOP to do more to recruit young voters

At just 17, Brilyn Hollyhand is too young to vote in his home state of Alabama's presidential primary next year. He'll have to wait until next November to cast his first ballot as a Republican.

And he wants more young voters to join him.

"We drastically underperformed in the midterms," Hollyhand said of the Republican Party. "I mean, it was embarrassing."

Republicans are up against a widening generation gap. Young voters tend to vote for Democrats overwhelmingly.

But some young Republicans like Hollyhand, who was in Milwaukee last week for the party's first Republican presidential primary debate, hope to change that. Read more

 

Scalise diagnosed with 'very treatable' cancer

The House Majority Leader said he expects the treatment will continue "for the next several months" and that he intends to return to D.C. during "this period."

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise said on Tuesday that he has been diagnosed with "a very treatable" blood cancer and is currently undergoing treatment.

"After a few days of not feeling like myself this past week, I had some blood work done. The results uncovered some irregularities and after undergoing additional tests, I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a very treatable blood cancer," Scalise (R-La.) said in a statement. Read more

 

Miami mayor Francis Suarez becomes

first Republican to quit 2024 race

Francis Suarez, the mayor of Miami, has become the first GOP candidate to quit the crowded race for the party nomination.

Suarez, who launched his long-shot presidential bid in June, announced his withdrawal in a social media post.  

“While I have decided to suspend my campaign for president, my commitment to making this a better nation for every American remains,” Suarez wrote on Twitter, the platform now known as X. Read more

 

Eminem asks Republican Ramaswamy to not use his music in presidential campaign

U.S. rapper Eminem has asked Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, a multimillionaire former biotech executive, to not use his music during his presidential campaign, according to a letter disclosed on Monday.

In the letter dated Aug. 23, which was reported first by the Daily Mail, BMI, a performing rights organization, informed Ramaswamy's campaign at the rapper's request that it will no longer license Eminem's music for use by Ramaswamy's campaign. Read more
