My name is Andy, and I’m volunteering for Jess Scarane because she supports the Green New Deal. Nothing scares me more than the impact climate change will have on my children’s future, and many Delawareans are already suffering from our refusal to take bold action.
In Wilmington, Southbridge floods regularly — at its worst, residents are essentially stranded. When Sandy hit in 2012, flooding was so bad that people had to be evacuated.
These storms will only increase in intensity and frequency. So what will happen to Southbridge when the next Sandy hits? And the one after that? Where will people go?
While our beaches erode and coastal flooding becomes commonplace, Delaware’s farmers, infrastructure, and delicate ecosystems are all at risk.
As residents of the lowest-lying state in the country, our elected officials should be leading this fight, not dismissing ambitious proposals as “pie in the sky”, “wild eyed”, and “outrageous.”
We need leaders who understand the magnitude and urgency of this existential threat - and have the courage to act accordingly. Chris Coons seems more concerned with criticizing progressive solutions and maintaining the status quo. That is outrageous.
We are running out of time.
