NCUA set to begin NAFCU-requested guidance review
The NCUA will conduct a comprehensive review of its guidance letters and legal opinions to determine if they are still needed in today's regulatory climate, NCUA Chairman Rodney Hood announced yesterday. NAFCU has long requested that the agency update outdated guidance, and the association was quick to share its support for the NCUA’s new initiative.

NAFCU talks data privacy, GLBA safeguards with FTC
Yesterday, NAFCU Director of Regulatory Affairs Ann Kossachev, Senior Regulatory Counsel Elizabeth LaBerge, and Regulatory Affairs Counsel Mahlet Makonnen met with the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection, Division of Privacy and Identity Protection to discuss data privacy and safeguards under the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), among other things.

ECU Monitor: CUs considering subordinated debt; CUSI earning index plunges
The February edition of NAFCU's Economic & CU Monitor report – now available for download – found that only 16.7 percent of respondents were more likely to consider purchasing subordinated debt under enhanced disclosure requirements. The NCUA Board moved forward with a proposed rule that would expand credit unions' ability to issue subordinated debt during its January meeting.

MDIs, financial inclusion focus of upcoming NCUA events
As the NCUA works to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the credit union industry, the agency is hosting two upcoming events focused on these issues: A Minority Depository Institution (MDI) Forum March 3-4, and a financial inclusion webinar March 11.
