Hello, fellow wave savers! Protecting, stewarding, and defending surf ecosystems is never-ending work. But that is why Save The Waves Coalition exists. Here are some of the things we have been working on to ensure surf ecosystems around the world can be surfed for years to come. For more stories from the Coalition, check out our blog here.

We recently had the opportunity to present a proposal for conserving the vital surf ecosystem of Punta Conejo which includes mangroves, wetlands, marshes, beaches, and surf zones to ensure the local population's well-being. We thank the local communities of the Punta Conejo area for sharing their stories and showing great interest in conserving their resources for present and future generations.

This month, Save The Waves hosted another successful workshop with the 12 World Surfing Reserves.  With a focus on the Blue Economy and Blue Finance, WSR leaders shared their experiences in ensuring conservation efforts are supported by thriving coastal economies and learned new ways to ensure that the conservation of surf ecosystems is correctly valued. Dr. Jess Ponting, the Director of the Center for Surf Research at SDSU joined the workshop to present his latest research on sustainable surf tourism and how surf communities can protect their coastal resources and ensure the economic benefits from tourism support local livelihoods and the environment.
