Politico reports that the Republican attempt to drive the nonpartisan election director out of office comes after years of "false claims of a stolen election in 2020" and calls the looming firing "retribution for decisions the [elections] commission made in 2020" to uphold the results of a free and fair election.²

John, the Republican effort to remove the nonpartisan elections director in Wisconsin comes as Trump faces efforts to block him from appearing on the ballot.

Legal scholars from across the political spectrum and advocacy groups—including MoveOn—have argued that the Section 3 of the 14th Amendment prohibits Trump from running for president.³ That provision was added to the U.S. Constitution after the Civil War to prevent Confederate officials, and future insurrectionists, from holding office.

The 14th Amendment is clear: Someone who has "engaged in insurrection" against the United States is barred from serving in state or federal office.⁴ And there is no question Trump engaged in insurrection when he directed a criminal conspiracy to overturn the lawful results of the 2020 presidential election.⁵

Now, with potential challenges to Trump's eligibility on the horizon, Republicans in Wisconsin are getting desperate and attempting to replace the nonpartisan elections director with a Republican plant who will do their bidding and help them steal the next election.
