Dear Neighbors,
I hope you enjoyed our 10/10 August weather weekend! After our recent heat dome, the cooler air was welcome. The weekend after Labor Day, on September 9, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will be offering free entry to any of our treasured state parks. It?ll be another opportunity to get out and explore a new place or enjoy a favorite spot. Check out a map here [ [link removed] ].
Here?s an update from the Capitol:

*Minnesota?s first ever Task Force on Aging meets?*
Last Thursday, I convened the first meeting of Minnesota?s first ever state Task Force on Aging [ [link removed] ]. The Legislative Task Force on Aging was established by legislation we passed in conjunction with my senate colleague Dr. Kelly Morrison. The group is dedicated to reviewing and developing state resources for Minnesota?s quickly growing aging population.?

We?re also identifying and prioritizing necessary support for the state?s aging population through statewide and local endeavors for people to remain in their communities.?

The Task Force on Aging will meet at least once a month to continue this good work. Please feel free to reach out anytime with input, questions, or ideas about how we can build a senior friendly state that allows our older neighbors to age well and with dignity.

*Plymouth nursing homes benefiting from over $656 million in new state funding*
On August 1st, new funding was delivered to nursing homes across the state as a result of the investments we passed during session. As Minnesota continues to recover from the pandemic, long term care facilities have continued to struggle to stay afloat. This bipartisan initiative resulted in over $656 million in new state funding for our area nursing homes struggling.
Of these initial investments, $656,813 will go to:
* $243,037 to Mission Nursing Home in Plymouth.
* $ 212,913 to Interlude Restorative Suites in Plymouth.
* $200,863 to The Birches at Trillium Woods in Plymouth.

*Back to School Season*
Another school year is just around the corner! I?m wishing all students, teachers, and staff a great year back in the classroom. During the legislative session, we delivered historic investments in education, from creating more than 5,000 voluntary Pre-K slots, hiring more counselors and school psychologists, more funding in evidence based literacy programming, Special Education, English language learning, and more pathways to post-secondary career and workforce opportunities. I was glad to support new funding for our Robbinsdale, Osseo, and Wayzata school districts because investing in our students is investing in our collective future and a strong local economy.?
