Dear John,
As August comes to a close, I am writing to give you some updates from our community. While I am excited to share some victories with you, I also wanted to address the hardships the Inland Empire has faced recently.
Securing Federal Funding for Affordable Housing
As your Representative, I am doing everything I can to alleviate the housing crisis we are facing.
I'm proud to share that the $3.5 million I secured for more affordable housing in San Bernardino County has helped complete a 300-unit affordable housing community, so that families don't have to make the impossible choice between making rent and putting food on the table.
I am committed to continuing this progress, and creating more affordable housing options for the hardworking families here in the Inland Empire.

On August 18, 2023, Laura Ann "Lauri" Carleton was tragically killed in a senseless act of violence over her support of the LGBTQ+ community.
I heard from so many people about this tragic shooting and share their shock and grief. As the national media attention moves on, it’s up to all of us to honor Lauri's memory by continuing her fight to defend our LGBTQ+ friends and neighbors, and condemn hatred and intolerance. |
Thank you, First Responders!
Recently, California endured an unprecedented storm. To help us recover from Hurricane Hilary, I joined my colleagues representing the Inland Empire in a request to the Biden-Harris Administration for additional federal assistance to our region.
I also wanted to take a moment to thank our brave first responders who worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of our loved ones. Thanks to their proactive and effective response, no one on the Inland Empire was injured during this disaster.
In a few weeks, I will be back in Washington, D.C., and I am eager to keep fighting for the Inland Empire. I will keep working to lower costs for families, secure more federal resources, and support our middle class.
