NASN is now accepting nominations for Fellow and Honorary Fellow of the National Academy of School Nursing. The honor of Fellow, the most prestigious recognition members can receive from NASN, symbolizes superior achievement and exceptional contributions to NASN and the school nursing profession. The Honorary Fellow award is an esteemed recognition for non-nurses who are leaders in their fields, committed contributors, and supporters of the NASN Vision that all students are healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Nominations are due by November 30.

Providing complex care for students requires an informed school nurse workforce. The Journal of School Nursing (JOSN) article, Knowing What We Don't Know: A Survey of School Nurse Information Needs, shares study results that aim to understand the information needs of school nurses to develop targeted interventions.

NASN Research Grants fund research projects focusing on advancing quality school nursing practice, school-affiliated healthcare delivery, and supporting the health of school-age children. Eligible projects must include a NASN member on the research team. Submit applications for NASN Research Grants by October 31.

The environment is a powerful social determinant of health and a critical factor in the health of students with asthma, and low-income minority students are particularly vulnerable to the adverse effects. The NASN course, Guidelines-based Care for the School Nurse to Create Healthy Environments for Children with Asthma, first presented at Virtual NASN2022, now available in the NASN Learning Center, offers evidence-based guidance to inform the school nurse of exposure-reducing interventions and mitigation efforts to combat the potential effects of environmental asthma triggers. 

To support getting school-aged children back on track with their routine immunizations as a part of "Back to School," the CDC provides evidence-based strategies and tools to support catch-up efforts. You can access CDC resources on the Let's RISE webpage. The Public Health Foundation has also developed a new toolkit with actionable resources for education professionals.

The AAP has developed learning bursts to aid school health staff and related health professionals in reviewing school health topics with their team. International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is the world’s largest annual campaign to end overdose. The IOAD 2023 theme, “Recognizing those people who go unseen,” is about acknowledging people in our communities affected by overdose who might go unseen in the crisis. Learn more about the 2023 campaign here.
