Community Health Workers, Experts in the In-between, Fight for their Place in the System

Ambar Castillo follows community health workers and directors discussing why there's hesitation about giving federal recognition and more Medicaid funding to CHW services. Even though CHWs help improve people's health and save money for healthcare systems, there are doubts. Denise Octavia Smith, who leads NACHW, says that people might not see CHWs as leaders because they don't have fancy titles, but that's not true at all.

Maysa Akbar, Chief Diversity Officer of APA, announces for the first time  that the “APA is systematically and institutionally examining, acknowledging, and charting a path forward to address its role in racism and other forms of destructive social hierarchies.” The organization is assessing the harms and is committing to true change by releasing a document that “aims to raise awareness, guide learning, and support the use of culturally sensitive terms and phrases that center the voices and perspectives of those who are often marginalized or stereotyped.”
