Augusta University and Augusta Health Visits

Last week, I visited Augusta University to meet with President Brooks Keel and discuss how telemedicine is positively impacting Georgia-12.

The Medical College of Georgia’s main campus in Augusta is leading the way in educating and training the next generation of physicians to serve in our rural communities.

Additionally, I attended a breakfast and signing ceremony formalizing the partnership between Wellstar Health System and Augusta University Health System to create Wellstar MCG Health. I look forward to seeing the positive impacts this partnership will have on the quality of care provided right here in the CSRA.

Hyatt House Tour

I also toured the Hyatt House in downtown Augusta with representatives from Hyatt House ownership and the American and Georgia Hotel and Lodging Associations. During the tour, members of the staff did not hesitate to put me to work, giving me a tutorial on how to properly fold towels and make the beds. Thanks for having me!

Shepeard Community Blood Center

A decision to donate blood can save a life. I stopped by the Shepeard Community Blood Center where I donated blood and had an informative meeting with the leadership team about some of the challenges they face with supply. Learn more about donating blood by CLICKING HERE.

Columbia County & Millen Rotary Club Meetings

I also spoke at the Columbia County and Millen Rotary Club meetings where I provided an update on my work in Washington on behalf of Georgia families and answered some questions from those in attendance. It's always nice seeing old friends and discussing the issues that matter most.

The Means Report

As I often do, I caught up with Brad Means on the Means Report while I was in Augusta where we covered a wide range of issues. Our conversation aired on Monday, but in case you missed it, you can view it online by CLICKING HERE or the image above.

CleanSpark Inc.

In Washington, I toured CleanSpark, a bitcoin mining facility that draws predominantly low-carbon power, such as nuclear energy, from the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia.

Lunch at Miller's Bistro

Also while in Washington, I enjoyed an amazing lunch at Miller's Bistro where I met the hardworking staff and a few of the local residents. There's always something special about family-owned businesses and Miller's Bistro is no exception. Thanks for the warm welcome and the delicious chicken salad.

Warren County School System

I traveled to Warrenton where Warren County Schools Superintendent Harris gave me a tour of the career academy, primary grades, and main campus. I enjoyed hearing from educators about the importance of returning to the classroom as well as the challenges they face and how I can help at the federal level.

Glascock County Book Donation

In Gibson, I donated books to the Glascock County Consolidated School through the Library of Congress Surplus Books Program. Promoting childhood literacy is crucial to setting our children up for success inside and outside of the classroom. I also took some time to answer a few questions from the students about what a day in Congress looks like.

Dublin City Schools

I traveled to Dublin where I received a truly incredible tour of the Dublin City Schools College and Career Academy.

"The WAY" or "Workforce Accelerating Youth" program is helping to bridge the gap between workforce development and education. I am beyond proud to see Dublin City Schools providing a meaningful pathway for students to achieve the American Dream. This is the future of America!

Lear West Fabrication

While in Dublin, I also visited Lear West Fabrication—a steel fabrication company that prides itself on being multi-generational, family-owned, woman-owned, and community-oriented. 

Workforce is the number one issue I hear about when visiting Georgia-12 businesses, and Lear West is dedicated to establishing apprenticeship opportunities with local technical universities to train our future workforce.

Laurens County Courthouse

Problems with a federal agency? My staff is here to help. I recently announced Community Office Hours for the month of September. 

Members of my staff will be available to assist constituents closer to home with a variety of federal issues, including help navigating various federal agencies such as Social Security, Veterans Affairs, Medicare, and others.
