Who is ruining summer fun with plastic in our water and on our beautiful beaches?
John,
Littering or failing to recycle have been cited as the cause of all the plastic piling up in our oceans, killing whales and sea turtles, and washing up on our beaches. But that’s not the full or accurate story.
Corporations have intentionally shifted the blame away from producers – when they’re the ones responsible for doubling down on plastic production. It’s cheap, convenient, and good for their bottom line – which they care more about than the damage it’s doing to our planet.
Packaging – on our food or other essential products – accounts for 40% of all plastic produced. As much as you or I may try to avoid plastic in our daily lives, it’s impossible to cut out completely.
It’s a money-making scheme. Oil and gas supply the raw materials to plastic manufacturing, and the more plastic they make the more fracking and drilling Big Oil does — it’s a vicious cycle.
Together, we can win the fight to stop plastic production and hold corporations accountable to cleaning up the plastic pollution crisis!
Your generosity and care powers this fight for our planet, and for all of us. We deserve better. Together, we are ensuring protections for our food, water, and climate are secured now!
With gratitude,
