It almost feels unreal to think that it’s already the end of August—this morning, my finance director and I plotted out our budget for the rest of the year, and as we were talking about setting up a fundraising event in November, I just thought, “Where has the year gone?”
But that’s the thing with running for office: time gets away from you, and it’ll be November of 2024 before we know it. We’re already thinking about the kinds of outreach we’ll be doing and the kinds of expenses we’ll have in three months, in six months, a year from now. Part of why I decided to run for Treasurer is because our state needs to start planning for the long-term if we want our economy to remain strong—and the planning we do for the campaign that will get us there is no different.
Which is why I’m coming to you asking you to help us meet our benchmark for August before midnight tonight. If we don’t hit our goals for August, it’ll be that much harder to hit our goals for September, and before we know it, we’ll have to start making some really tough decisions about our spending.
On the other hand, if every person who opens this email gave just $25 today, we would hit not only August’s goal, but September’s goal as well, and then we’d be able to really expand the kind of voter outreach we’re planning for next year. That’s what I mean when I say this campaign depends on you and donors like you—whether we sink or swim is truly in your hands.
So, John, can I count on you to chip in whatever you can before midnight tonight?
