Dear John,

The NRA just can’t keep quiet. As families, a community, and the country were still learning the news of Saturday’s mass shooting in Jacksonville, the National Rifle Association started tweeting.

What did they claim?

Americans vehemently disagree with the President’s stance that “Nobody needs an AR-15.”

What do Americans really think?

According to a 2022 poll by Gallop:

55% of Americans believe there should be a ban on the manufacture, possession, and sale of assault rifles.

57% of Americans believe that the laws covering the sale of firearms should be made more strict.

63% of Americans are very or somewhat dissatisfied with the nation’s gun laws or policies.

This year, more than 25,000 Americans have been killed due to gun violence.

How many more preventable deaths will it take for the NRA to stop peddling lies that kill people every second, every minute, and every day?

Today, I was supposed to send you an end-of-the-month fundraising email to support my efforts to help Democrats win back the House in 2024. But instead, I am asking you to take action in the fight to end gun violence.

No matter where you live, Everytown for Gun Safety has resources to help you get started. You can sign their pledge, volunteer, join a chapter of Moms or Students Demand Action, make calls with the Gun Sense Action Network, and more.

I hope you will join me in the fight to end gun violence in America.

We can do it, but we can’t do it alone.

Judy
